Radar vs. Camera Launch Monitors for Indoor Golf

Indoor placement matters more than a broad technology label

Behind-the-ball radar monitors, side-positioned camera units and ceiling-mounted systems occupy different parts of a room. That changes the installation plan. It does not mean every camera unit fits a small room or that every radar unit requires an identical depth: use the specific manufacturer's indoor placement diagram.

Our current catalog includes the Rapsodo MLM2PRO and Garmin R10 as behind-the-ball examples, Bushnell Launch Pro i as a side-positioned camera system, and TrackMan iO as a ceiling-mounted monitor. Some systems use multiple sensor technologies, so the product's actual mount point and published clearance are more useful than marketing categories alone.

Documented package examples

The Rapsodo MLM2PRO source lists at least 6.5 feet behind the ball plus approximately 8 feet of ball flight. The Garmin R10 SIG10 package uses a published 15-foot depth constraint. A general 12-foot SIG10 minimum alone therefore misses a critical consideration for those two packages.

The Bushnell Launch Pro i is positioned at the side of the hitting area and has a retailer-published 12' × 12' × 9' SIG10 minimum, but an individual golfer still needs adequate swing clearance. TrackMan iO avoids a floor-standing unit behind the ball; its source instead specifies a ceiling mounting-height range of 9 ft 4 in to 10 ft and does not publish a complete operational minimum on the package page.

Other buying questions that technology does not answer

• Does the exact included software require a subscription for course play or third-party integrations?
• Can both right- and left-handed golfers use the installed mat and monitor position without inconvenient moves?
• Do you need a gaming PC, ceiling mount, special marked balls or reflective stickers?
• Does the room have enough space for the projector's required throw distance and a full swing?
